Software Developer – Database Development (KTP Associate)
(30 months fixed term contract)
Salary: £20,000 p.a.
plus £5,000, individual training budget and higher degree registration.

Scout7are a vibrant, well established company providing software and infrastructure to Professional Football Clubs for use in their Recruitment, Analysis and Player development Programmes. With close to 125 clients in the UK and Europe, Scout7 are at the forefront of technology in football.
As part of ongoing commitment to delivering quality products to the football industry we are embarking on projects for the next evolution of technology solutions. An integral part of this programme is the establishment of two, 30 month associate positions within a single Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with Aston University. Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (http://www.ktponline.org.uk/) provide associates with extensive practical and formal training and the availability of support from experienced mentors, from both Scout 7and Aston University.
Supported by Aston University, there are two roles involve designing and developing products and services in an n-tier, Web 2.0, Service Oriented Architecture framework for Scout7 Ltd’s products, creating a new business model and opportunities to exploit new markets. The Database Development role will focus on ‘back end’ data warehouse and services; the second role, Applications Layer Development (Ref: R100108), will focus on ‘front end’ applications.
Ideal candidates will be recent graduate with a good honours degree in Computer Science or a related subject and will be able to demonstrate practical experience (e.g. direct work experience, a suitable placement during their degree programme, or a company/application based final year project) in database development and/or ontologies, web service development and/or distributed computing. Experience of the .NET Framework/C#/ASP.NET 2+ would be considered a major advantage and candidates would be expected to complete a simple C#, C++, or java program, demonstrating these skills. Any exposure to n-Tiered and/or XP (Extreme Programming) development, and/or working with an Agile methodology, would also be desirable along with OOP and Design Pattern exposure. Additionally, any experience with TSQL/Database normalisation would be advantageous.
Candidates should be communicative, inquisitive, a good team worker and should demonstrate the ability to complete and deliver software projects. The ability to communicate a vision to other developers and potential users is essential. Applicants should also be flexible and responsive to user requirements and ideas. A high level of attention to detail is required along with a willingness to undertake complex software development bringing both rigour and imagination to pragmatic solutions. In addition, applicants should be well organised, self-motivated, with the ability to interact with staff at all levels and to work independently or as part of a team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to register for an MSc / MPhil and for a Diploma in Management.
