Speaker Profiles:

Roger Welch Dr Roger Welch, Project Manager Isis Enterprise,

Roger Welch completed his Ph.D. from the Physics Department of Warwick University in 1995. He then spent three years as a cryogenic systems design engineer working in the Oxford area. Later, Roger was involved in several sales and marketing positions dealing with new and innovative technologies closely associated with science and engineering including cryogenics, optics, optoelectronics, and vacuum technology. Roger joined Isis in 2003 where he spent three years commercialising technologies from the University of Oxford. Since 2006, Roger has been managing the Carbon Trust Incubator Scheme which provides investment readiness support to early stage technology companies.


Mr. Blues Yang, Chief Representative of Shanghai Foreign Investment Development Board(FID), London Office,

FID is a Chinese governmental organization focusing on promoting two-way investment between Shanghai and overseas countries and regions by providing free consulting services. Since the London Office has been established in 2002, more than 30 UK companies have been introduced to Shanghai, including big multi-nationals and SMEs as well. And also 10 Shanghai business have found their place in the Kingdom through the help of FID.
Before joining FID in 2004, Mr. Yang was working as a Trader for an Export and Import company in Shanghai dealing with household and DIY products.


Stewart Ferguson Stewart Ferguson, China Business Advisor – China Britain Business Council,

Stewart is the China Business Advisor for the West Midlands.  Having spent 7 of the last 10 years working in manufacturing and export in China he has a wealth of knowledge in many aspects of establishing and conducting business in China.
As part of his role, Stewart coordinates the Midlands Manufacturers Forum for UK companies working in China either manufacturing directly or indirectly.
Stewart has just come back from a 3 month secondment to the CBBC Shanghai office where he was acting Trade Services Director covering the day to day implementation of the work CBBC conducts on behalf of UK Trade and Investment.

Marting has been working closely with Nordic companies for over twenty years. He will offer an insight into what drives the Nordic business person, the differences and similarities of each nationality, some useful history and, most importantly, how to secure that deal!

Bineet is part of the national UK Trade & Investment organization and is the West Midlands lead for the ICT Cluster within the Regional Development Agency (AWM). Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is an umbrella term that includes all technologies for the manipulation and communication of information. The ICT sector is one of the largest wealth creators in the UK. It has been one of the fastest growing sectors over the last decade and is expected to grow to over £29 billion by 2012. Moreover the effective uptake and implementation of ICT is vital for every sector within the UK.

Glenn is responsible for developing clean tech focussed opportunities for BSPA. This will include internationalization opportunities for BSPA client companies, stimulating inward investment opportunities, exploring UK and European bid possibilities, and for the conception of strategic events consistent with the delivery of the BSPA Business Plan.
