Birmingham Science Park Aston

A New Look and New Direction for the Science Park

After 27 years of successful operation Aston Science Park has been tasked with delivering a new vision. The new strategy will see it evolve and redirect its activity to focus on support for the Region’s high-tech start-up and early-stage businesses.

A major re-launch is planned for the autumn of this year, but as an early statement of this intent to drive a Birmingham focussed agenda, the Science Park is now officially changing its name and introducing its new look logo:

Birmingham Science Park Aston
, now wholly owned by Birmingham City Council, will champion and catalyse the innovation economy of Birmingham and the Region by promoting high-value employment and the Region’s enterprise culture.

Mike Whitby, Leader of Birmingham City Council and Chairman of Birmingham Science Park Aston, said “Located at the very heart of our Global City our renowned Science Park has always retained the capacity to act as a major contributor towards our ambitions to grow as a world-class centre for innovation.”

“As Chairman of the Science Park I am determined to see it grow and become an even more successful story, akin to other Council-owned assets like the NEC. I am delighted that now, with a clear new direction, the full support of the City Council, and David’s expertise we are signaling our ambition to be world-leaders.

“A successful Science Park can add to a city in numerous ways, supporting creativity, innovation and generating employment. We are lucky to have a Park with such a prestigious history, and I am now confident that Birmingham Science Park Aston has a bright future as well.”

Dr David Hardman MBE, Managing Director of Birmingham Science Park Aston said “In many ways this is a return to the original values of the Science Park, but placed in today’s economy  it will address the challenges faced by the Region’s innovators. Birmingham Science Park Aston will help create new high-tech businesses to diversify the economy by supporting first time entrepreneurs and innovators as they deliver their aspirations. It is about wealth creation that will lead to new jobs; about the intellectual capital to sustain the “Big City Plan”. Birmingham Science Park Aston will position itself at the heart of the Digital District and drive translation of IT, communications and digital media technologies into successful businesses. It will act as a focal point for business and technical expertise, providing access to a menu of business support services and funding either directly or through partnership”
